This traveling exhibit includes contemporary work by internationally acclaimed abstract expressionist, Ludmila Pawlowska, along with traditional Russian icons on loan from the Vasilevsky Monastery.

Fr. Damian Higgins

Fr. Damian Higgins, of Holy Transfiguration Monastery, in California, is an iconographer whose works are featured around the world. He has been painting icons for his monastery and for churches and homes around the world for nearly 30 years. He began teaching the process at the request of those who felt drawn to the depth and beauty of the art form and wanted to understand more about its spirituality and theology.

Jeff Jones—Art inspired writing: A two hour workshop

In this short writing workshop, attendees will seek to make and explore a personal connection with a piece of art from "Icons in Transformation." Please bring your preferred writing tools (pen and paper, laptop, etc.) No writing experience necessary.

Biography

Jeff Jones grew up in Denver and earned B.A. degrees in English writing and anthropology from the University of Colorado at Denver. His M.A. in International Studies from the University of Washington focused on Russian culture, where he analyzed images of Stalin in Soviet and Russian film. In 1997, he began to write fiction and published his first short story that year. In 2005, he received an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Idaho. His debut novel Love Give Us One Death appeared in 2016, and his debut story collection Bloodshot Stories appeared in 2018. His self-published handbook Writing for the Reader focuses on the practice of prose craft.
