St. James Social Justice and Outreach Ministries (SJOM) encourages, as well as educates and communicates about local and global initiatives, seeking to live the Gospel imperative to care for the least amongst us, to love our neighbors as ourselves.

SJOM Response to Haiti Earthquake

Activities of those involved with these ministries include:

  • Fundraising projects (events parking; baby shower coffee hour)
  • Grantmaking (local and global organizations)
  • Hands-on projects (home repair, food bank)
  • Issues education (connecting contemporary concerns with Gospel imperatives through preaching and teaching)
  • Advocacy/networking (Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation and Episcopal Public Policy Network)

Please bring baby goods for Community Action Center (diapers - size 3 or higher, wipes, powder, lotion, formula, baby food & juice). Cash donations also welcome.

Projects funded by SJOM

Kiva: High school youth and their mentors maintain revolving microloans to entrepreneurs in developing countries through global on-line network.

Flip Flop Foundation: Works to improve lives of orphans in Zambia and to provide skills training to Zambian women to empower them towards self-sufficiency. The 2009 Spring Tea (and parking) raised over $2,000 for Flip Flop Foundation.

Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD):  Funds donated have helped with Hurricane Katrina relief, Pakistan earthquake relief, and water sanitation projects in developing countries.

Belize Mission: Annual Spokane diocese delegation helps with primary school construction, supplies and books. St. James sent vitamins for the students. Book sale cart in Fellowship Hall supports this effort. 

Children showing off their animals Our Sunday School children raise money for the Heifer Project, which provides animals to families for food and income; they recently met goal of sending $5,000 for an Ark of Animals.
